Boiler efficiency bo November 1st 2010 Byworth Boilers has added another
energy saving concept to its ranges of
fuel efficient steam and hot water
boilers. The inclusion of X-ID spiral
firetubes means the efficiency of the
Yorkshireman three pass wetback
steam boiler range has been
increased by up to 3%.
The spiral tubes increase heat
transfer by up to 80%, not only by
increased turbulence and surface
area, but by a special attachment/reattachment
phenomena in the
boundary layer.
The latest concept with the
Yorkshireman range is an air
preheating system. This uses hot
gases from the flue, via an air to air
heat exchanger, to warm air before
combustion in the burner. This
reduces the fuel consumption. Flue
gases are also commonly used in an
economiser which heats up the
boiler feed water, again reducing fuel
use. Efficiency can be increased by
up to 5% in this way.
The company says it is possible in
some applications to use all these
concepts – X-ID tube, economiser
and air preheat and achieve
efficiency figures in the region of
95% (based on nett calorific values).
Peter Baldwin, MD, says: "We have
placed a great deal of importance on
R&D in the past few years, the goal
being reduced energy costs for our
customers. As an independent boiler
maker, with all production taking
place here in the UK, developing new
concepts is relatively easy for us." More articles from Byworth Boilers: |
