New package proves to be a sweet solution
May 1st 2005

Flavour of the month at chocolate manufacturer Classic Couverture are Ferroli and Heating & Process Engineering Solutions (Heat-Pro) who have engineered a creative heating solution using Ferroli’s new E-Concept boiler.

A survey of the factory hot water system, undertaken in 2003, resulted in a phased improvement plan, with a recommendation to replace the boiler plant.

John Greenhalgh, consultant engineer to Classic Couverture explains that the thermal capacity of the boiler was inadequate, it was being operated at a low temperature causing significant condensation, and was a single unit with no standby facility.

The Ferroli E-Concept units are modular so the company can select boiler capacity to suit plant requirements. The modular approach also gave a degree of redundancy as the four interconnected boilers each have independent heat exchangers; if one fails, seven others remain operable.

However, despite the compact profile of the E-Concept, the existing location of the heating plant could not accommodate a new system of four linked units.

To solve the problem, Ferroli and Heat-Pro developed a packaged containerised unit that could be assembled off-site, then simply loaded onto a concrete base. The boiler was pre-wired, with electrical supplies and services connected to predetermined positions.

Changeover to the new plant took less than 48h.
