VSD cuts downtime March 1st 2006 By spending a relatively modest sum on VSDs to refurbish its enamel spray paint line, oven manufacturer Glen Dimplex Home Appliances in Merseyside has saved thousands of pounds in replacement motors and an even larger sum on downtime, while improving production quality.
The drive chain system that transported oven components through the curing oven was powered by an ageing variator gearbox that failed on a regular basis and leaked oil.
Close speed control over the oven drive is essential to meet the varied curing times, so George Kelly, maintenance projects engineer, called in Danfoss Drives' partner, MR Engineering, for advise.
The solution was to drive the line using a 3kW Danfoss VLT 2800 inverter to power the force cooled motor through a fixed ratio gearbox. Speed raise and lower buttons and speed readout from a line-mounted tachometer give line operators full manual control over the enamel curing process. More articles from Danfoss Limited: |
