Flexible heating system May 1st 2006 A new multi purpose building has been added to the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate, the latest building will be used for a wide range of activities ranging from agricultural, kit car and floral shows to large concerts with upto 2000 people. With such a large variation in the heating and ventilation requirement an extremely versatile system was needed which would constantly respond to the changing demands.
The latest RAPID Pressurair system from Process Combustion was selected due to its ability to optimise the ventilation requirement by automatic means. The quantity of outside air is adjusted not only to optimise the energy consumption but also meet the ventilation criteria in the main hall to achieve excellent indoor air quality.
The efficient high turndown direct-fired burner is constantly adjusting to accurately maintain the desired space temperature irrespective of the varying levels of heat gain. During warmer ambient weather or periods of high occupancy the system automatically selects 'summer mode' which isolates the burner and adjusts the ventilation rate to full outside air to maximise the 'free cooling' effect. A requirement for very low system noise levels within the building was achieved by using a high efficiency backward bladed impeller and noise attenuation on the supply and return air connections.
