November 1st 2008 Cavaghan & Gray is saving around
£6000 a year thanks to a new
system to measure and control the
water consumption of the washing
system on its potato blancher. The
system relies on a Miniflow
electromagnetic flowmeter from
ABB and has delivered a payback
of just six months. This success
spurred the Carlisle-based ready
meals company, part of Northern
Foods, to install a further four
systems for its other washing and
cooling equipment.
The five new control systems in
the financial year 07/08 reduced
consumption by 30,000t, amounting
to a 10% to 57% reduction,
depending on which piece of kit the
system was fitted to.
Miniflow flowmeters are designed
to provide an economical solution in
applications where the cost of other
units might otherwise preclude the
