15-year contract September 1st 2004 The Heinz plant near Wigan is to get a £5.3m energy centre to support production of canned food. The company has signed a 15-year energy management contract with Dalkia who will provide the technology to ensure effective environmental performance.
Large volumes of steam are needed at the site and the energy centre will generate up to 140t/h to ensure that the canning production lines operate at optimum availability.
The energy centre will improve efficiency to around 88% as it annually transforms more than £3.5m of gas into steam. It will incorporate four of the largest shell boilers in the UK, each capable of delivering 35t/h of steam.
Dalkia will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the new plant, and guarantee the essential steam delivery and environmental performance. The latest software and computer control systems allow the facility to be operated unmanned, with 24h monitoring from Dalkia’s site monitoring centre in Coventry.
To ensure efficiency and minimal environmental impact, a condensing economiser will be installed and boilers fitted with low NOx burners. More articles from Dalkia plc: |
