Efficiency boost July 1st 2005 Boilerhouse decentralisation at CCLRC Daresbury Laboratory near Warrington has been completed, with gas boilers from Broag replacing obsolete oil-fired units.
Commenting on the new heating system, Henry Gun-Why, head of estates management, says “The source of gas for the site was 11/2 miles away. Connecting it to site caused disruption, but it’s been worth it to have more efficient boilers just where they are needed.” Fourteen boilers with a total output of just under 4500kW have been installed in 13 plant rooms across the site. All but the smallest, a Remeha 350 atmospheric gas boiler with a 108kW output, are high efficiency condensing boilers: six Remeha Gas 3002 ECO 15- section boilers, one 6002 ECO with 2 x 13 sections, and six Gas 210 ECO six-section boilers.
The Gas 3000 ECO floor standing units have outputs from 176 to 529kW (doubled for the Gas 6002)and provide a high annual efficiency of more than 93% GCV.
