Available in the UK from AiAX (AC), Aermecs NRA free-cooling range of 407C chillers are said to deliver energy efficiency ratios up to a factor of 10 times greater than traditional compressor-only chillers. Nine models cover the range 50 to 160kW and there are two versions: with pump only; and with pump and tank. Units have additional air-water coils to supplement or replace the cooling power of the compressors. As the ambient temperature falls below that of the return water, the free-cooling coil is introduced into the chilled water circuit, reducing the cooling requirement from the compressors. As the temperature reduces still further, so does the compressors operation until all cooling is handled by the free-cooling coil.
