March 1st 2004 An Airedale Ultima UFC 500D free cooling chiller and controls package has reduced energy costs in the ripening plant of Pratts Bananas in Luton. The chiller and an AIRETronix controls package complement four Airedale ACC 120D dual circuit air-cooled chillers with Trend controllers.
The UFC 500D was set to operate at a lower flow set point than the main system set point, ensuring the energy efficient screw compressors are the first stage in maintaining the secondary flow temperature. The ACC 120D chillers give extra capacity when required and provide backup. An interface card on the UFC 500D allows the AIRETronix controller to communicate on the Trend network.
