Winning contract for sawmill upgrade May 1st 2005 At one of Finland’s leading timber mills, in Varkauden Saha, considerable investment has taken place in the latest timber and board handling equipment. All of these diverse lines have one thing in common – drives from Control Techniques.
Ari Lindvall, manager of Control Techniques says “The performance and versatility of Unidrive SP has been the most significant factor in this, most being supplied for Profibus networking, and for positioning applications using SIN/COS multi-turn absolute encoders.”
At each stage of the process, chipping, sawing, sorting, stacking and packaging, Unidrive and Unidrive SP are crucial in giving the high accuracy (0.1mm) positioning required for the positioning of grinding rolls, chippers and saw blade positioning.
“We particularly like the Undrive SP and Unimotor combination” says Markku Ahlfors, supervisor, electrical maintenance at the Stora Enso sawmill “as it is so flexible.
It’s also crucial to have feedback with absolute encoders, so that the whole system knows the position of every motor at start-up. This saves production time and cuts waste.” More articles from Control Techniques: |
