Hidden costs

planning to wait until 2015 to invest
in alternatives to R22 (deadline 1
Jan 2015 for recycled R22) may
not be aware that there could be
hidden costs in the short term. The
cost of R22, for example, is estimated
to rise by 15 to 20% a quarter.
Parasense says those planning
to wait should consider installing a
comprehensive leak detection and
management system as undetected
leaks will become increasingly
expensive, apart from being
damaging to the environment. It
says few realise that a 15%
refrigerant leak results in a 100%
increase in energy consumption.
