Letting off steam wastes cash
July 1st 2008

Gardner Energy Management (GEM), will be unveiling its updated range of GEM Emerald traps at Energy 2008. The Emerald trap sets are for repetitive load capacity applications where there is an extensive use of drip legs and trace heating systems (used extensively in the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries).

GEM says the simplified Emerald is more flexible in orientation and fits all universal, 'quick fit', bolt on pipeline 'connectors'. There is no need for pipework alterations or fitting new traps - a problem in hazardous areas where production is shut down for pipework modifications.

Manufactured from corrosion resistant stainless steel, the GEM Emerald features a reinforced mesh integral strainer. Guaranteed for 10 years, the steam traps withstand pressures up to 100 bar (1450 psi) and have been hydraulically tested to 200 bar (2900 psi). Gardner Energy Management will also be exhibiting its full range of venturi steam traps, which it's claimed can give water and energy savings of up to 55%. GEM says British industry wastes £3bn a year in energy costs, purely through steam loss caused by mechanical steam traps leaking steam when open or backing up condensate.

The company says with the GEM range there is no steam loss through a trap, fuel is conserved, downtime reduced and safety increased.
