Production up, steam down November 1st 2008 Decorative surface film
manufacturer, Cova Products, has
cut its steam consumption by 35%
over two years thanks to a series of
energy saving measures via Spirax
Sarco. The saving has been made
despite production increasing 30%
over the same period.
Spirax Sarco initially installed a
flash steam recovery system, and
followed up with a survey of the
site's entire steam system, which
found that maintenance work could
provide Cova with annual savings of
up to £90,000.
The review also found that the
site was not always using the most
appropriate type of steam trap for
each job, which was addressed.
Cova then implemented regular trap
surveys and updated its SCADA
system to monitor steam to each
process, and give an immediate
indication of any problems.
The firm also replaced and
upgraded insulation on all its steam
and hot water pipes. Heat losses
have been further reduced by
isolating and removing pipes that
are no longer needed at the 40 year
old site.
"Spirax Sarco's expertise has
been of great value to Cova
Products," confirms Cova
engineering and systems manager,
Philip Bell. More articles from Spirax Sarco Ltd: |
