Ozone for T3
March 1st 2006

To cater for increasing capacity and the associated air conditioning demands of Heathrow's terminals, BAA has upgraded and increased the capacity of the cooling towers on Terminal 3 and added additional towers on Terminal 1.

BAA has chosen ozone treatment systems from Waterwise Technology for the new cooling tower installations. Replacing conventional chemical treatment systems with ozone, achieves a number of objectives.

It minimises the environmental impact of BAA's operations. The level of protection for the public against legionella and other bacteria is not compromised.

Health and safety risks associated with chemicals and chemical handling are virtually eliminated. Operating costs are reduced as consumable chemicals are no longer required.

A further benefit to BAA is that the floor space required for storage of chemicals can be put to better use
