BELT DRIVE HELPS CUT DOWNTIME November 1st 2004 Interroll’s conveyor belt drives have helped Marden Edwards improve its product designs. The company makes stretch wrappers and associated handling equipment such as conveyors.
Until six years ago it relied on motors and gearboxes with variators for manually adjusting speed control.
These were bulky, unsightly and the variators posed maintenance problems.
In redesigning their machines, Marden Edwards sought a sleeker, modern look based on cheaper, more reliable drives. Having a sleeker look also meant the company could cut its production costs.
The Interroll 113S conveyor belt drive proved reliable and reduced downtime. It uses an inverter to control speed adjustment, so is virtually maintenance-free.
The belt drive, rated at 0.18kW, is said to be safer than the motor and gearbox drives based on variators and the enclosed design means there are no finger gaps, so operators cannot injure their hands. More articles from Interroll Automation: |
