Automation provides productivity boost May 1st 2006 Productivity has been boosted by 70% at Graham's Toiletries' new warehouse and distribution centre (DC) at Chorley, Lancashire following the installation of an automated handling system.
The system was installed and designed by Univeyor to provide Graham's with fast and accurate sorting of products as well the capacity for future growth.
Before the opening of the new DC, the warehouse operation involved the manual picking of products throughout a 16 hour working day. Increased efficiency from the semi-automated system has reduced the working day to 8 hours, while maintaining the same throughput.
As main contractor for the project, Univeyor also co-ordinated the installation of the racking to accommodate 11,000 product locations within 12 storage aisles plus a 400 chute crossbelt sorter.
