High efficiency stock handling facilities have been installed by European Conveyor Systems at the Merseyside factory of Johnson Controls, manufacturer of interior components for Jaguar Cars.

Easy-to-operate, the custom-built system has been designed to eliminate manual handling, while maintaining accurate stock control.

It is designed to carry special stillages, each holding six car sets, from the processing area to the car door assembly area, transferring stock on a first-in, first-out basis.

The stock-holding area consists of 36 twin-strand chain conveyors on two levels, each capable of holding three stillages, with the different sections accessed by automatic transfer cars and lifts.

The conveyor system is controlled and the location of stillages mapped by a PLC with touch-screen operator interface.
