New buffer
May 1st 2006

A heavy-duty pallet handling system at McCain Foods' factory near Peterborough is providing significant buffer storage between production and its cold store.

The system was installed by European Conveyor Systems on behalf of Single Source Storage Service, which was appointed by McCain Foods as systems integrator.

The previous system allowed little buffering of pallets, which was restricting the higher output required to meet increasing demand.

The new system handles GKN Chep pallets measuring 1200 x 1000 mm each with a 1000 kg maximum weight. Nominal maximum throughput is 120 pallets/hour.
