A high capacity conveyor system is enabling Russ Berrie, a leading distributor of toys and giftware, to handle 600 cartons an hour with minimal manual handling and a high degree of flexibility at a distribution centre in Southampton

Designed and installed by European Conveyor Systems, it links eight picking zones and four packing zones on the ground and first floors, and a high-level despatch sorter. Altogether, the conveyors are about a mile long

The system includes three long zero-pressure accumulating conveyors that enable almost 400 cartons to be held without risk of damage so that staff can be allocated to different tasks allocated to different tasks.
