Undercover storage for salt
March 1st 2008

The Rubb Group manufactures prefabricated portable structures, buildings, shelters and custom units. These can be manufactured in virtually any configuration and provide storage for a range of goods and materials.

Such versatility is beneficial where, due to the tightening of environmental regulations materials such as the bulk storage of salt are required to be kept under cover to restrict the possible impact on the environment. With a steel frame and PVC-coated polyester fabric cover, Rubb structures are suitable for saline environments.

The town of Derry, New Hampshire, wanted a salt shed to store 4000t of salt. Rubb, designed, made and installed a 70 x 116ft BVE type building that had adequate height clearance to lift a 40ft dump trailer inside it. A traditional poured concrete design was selected. This helped to ensure that the building could withstand 65psf ground snow and 100mph wind with 3-second gust, Exp.C.
