Delivery for envelope firm
September 1st 2006

Jofson Mitsubishi has sealed its first contract with envelope giant Jiffy Packaging and has delivered seven 'and a half' trucks to its distribution centre in Winsford, Cheshire.

The 'half', explains warehouse manager Dave Alexander, is an example of the flexible thinking that helped persuade Jiffy to choose Jofson Mitsubishi. "We operate a 24/7 system, so need arrangements to cope with sudden peaks in demand or technical problems at any time.

"With Jofson, we came up with the idea of an additional, older truck, which is not part of the new fleet, but we keep on site and use on a pay-as-you-go basis. The 'slave-truck', as I call it, gives us the best of both worlds flexibility to handle the unexpected without unnecessary cost the rest of the time."

The new trucks supplied include a specially customised RB14K reach truck with hydraulically extending forks and a remote control camera to guide drivers safely to the back of Jiffy's 9.5m, double-deep bays. The concealed pipework and camera monitor offer the driver better visibility, while improved battery performance offers reductions in downtime."

Dave Alexander continues "Our other reach trucks need additional batteries and take a long time to charge, but the combination of AC technology and a high capacity battery on the RB14K reach truck has enabled us to do away with the spare battery." The other six trucks supplied are the latest Mitsubishi FG15N counterbalance models, whose catalytic converters should help to reduce exhaust fumes in the warehouse.
