Mill opts for equipment on contract hire basis
January 1st 2005

Bridgewater Paper Mill was so impressed by the service it received from Linde Sterling that when it decided to replace most of the materials handling fleet at its Ellesmere Port site, it chose Linde equipment on contract hire.

In a move to rationalise the materials handling operation, Bridgewater decided that Linde Sterling should take over the management of the fleet, as well as identify and replace any trucks that had reached the end of their useful working lives.

Linde H 60 Dsz fitted with bale clamps were selected to handle bales of waste in the first stages of the recycling process used at the site. Several H 45 Ds equipped with non-rotating paper reel clamps and an H 30D with a rotating paper reel clamp will be used during the final stages of the manufacturing process to handle finished rolls.

All these Linde machines, with capacity ranges from 3 to 6t, have hydrostatic transmission that also incorporates automatic engine speed control. This is said to eliminate over-revving of the engine and to result in reduced fuel consumption, lower exhaust and sound emissions, extended engine life and a better working environment for the operator.

It is also said to provide the smooth ‘inching’ characteristics, essential for precision handling of valuable rolls when stacking.

Other Linde equipment on site, includes purpose-built, rideroperated T20 R reel transporter pallet trucks that are used to transfer 1.5t reels to the wrap line.

Forks have been adapted to ensure stability when handling the reels.
