Charge while you break
July 1st 2007

High speed chargers in the LifeSpeed range bring a new meaning to refreshment breaks for fork truck drivers. The new Hawker high frequency (HF) high speed chargers from EnerSys Motive Power are designed to refresh battery charge while trucks are parked during drivers' short rest breaks thereby minimising battery handling and maximise truck working time

The LifeSpeed 3000 series is a new high-speed charging concept that allows batteries to be recharged while in situ on the trucks to make the most of opportunity charging during shift working for up to six days in any week.

Truck drivers park up during rest periods and other breaks and plug the truck battery into LifeSpeed chargers. Fast HF charging tops up the battery charge in a few minutes with maximum charge achieved in between two and four hours, depending on conditions of use and depth of discharge.

By placing LifeSpeed chargers in positions near working locations there is no need for special areas to be allocated for battery handling systems or additional batteries. The risk of accidents is minimised as the batteries stay on the trucks while charging is taking place.

Considerable cost savings can be made from reducing time taken for battery handling and up to 10% savings in energy can be achieved by using HF high speedcharge technology. The LifeSpeed range covers 10 to 40 KW, 24 , 48 and 80V chargers for a large choice of battery capacities.

LifeSpeed HF fast-charge technology is suitable for those situations where opportunity charging of truck batteries can occur within the normal shift patterns. Working up to a maximum of six days, on the seventh day Lifespeed is used to condition charge the batteries, ensuring maximum battery life and function.
