Pyroban to audit forklifts March 1st 2008 Pyroban comments that the risk of
a defective explosion-proof forklift
truck operated within a potentially
hazardous flammable atmosphere
is a risk without parallel in the
materials handling industry.
The company says that a recent
report raises concerns that safety is
not being maintained correctly on
some sites, highlighting the need
for independent annual audits.
The Dangerous Substances and
Explosive Atmospheres Regulations
(DSEAR) are designed to make
sure companies act responsibly.
One of their duties is to prevent an
ignition source, such as a spark,
entering a hazardous area.
Pyroban modifies equipment
such as forklifts so that they are
explosion-proof and ATEX-compliant
by eliminating sources of ignition
on the equipment.
Although most converted forklifts
are maintained by specially trained
service engineers, there are cases
where this is not so, and it is up to
the user to check the engineer's
capabilities and certification.
Pyroban suggests explosionproof
equipment users speak to
their service provider to check that
safety is correctly maintained.
Alternatively they can contact
Pyroban for advice. More articles from Pyroban Ltd: |
