Simplifying the choices
July 1st 2006

Chloride Motive Power has announced a radical new product/service offering that they believe will revolutionise the way the motive power battery market is supplied

The thinking behind the move is to simplify the choices for customers and to formalise the direction that the company has been taking i.e. to offer power solutions as opposed to simply selling batteries, chargers and ancillaries. The 'Liberator' package will be available in three guises Silver, Gold and the CMP's solution, Platinum, which provides a totally maintenance free package to the customer. All are suitable for light to heavyduty applications.

Liberator Silver offers up to 120 days between maintenance intervals. The range consists of a comprehensive choice of DIN and BS cell options in a low maintenance (LM) design due to its low antimony alloy and sophisticated charging technology. This package has a slightly higher initial purchase cost than for a standard motive power battery and charger but these will be significantly out-weighed by the reduced long term running costs. A typical user will achieve a minimum saving of 20% on whole life costs when linked to the matched HF charger, Aquajet watering and air ancillaries.

Liberator Silver offers high reliability with a minimal service routine; extended watering intervals of up to 120 days are achievable because the low antimony content in the lead alloy causes less water loss than conventional motive power cells. As part of the package an electrolyte sensor level and the Aquajet water refilling system are provided to ensure that optimum electrolyte levels are maintained and that the topping up procedure is completed quickly and safely.

The Liberator Gold solution offers up to 200 days between maintenance intervals from a range of DIN cells with reduced plate height and low antimony alloy. Electronic components ensure efficient and safe operation. Low maintenance is achievable due to the reliable tubular plate technology and low plate height, which results in a greater electrolyte reserve. Like Silver, Liberator Gold is also supplied with a battery monitoring sensor and refilling system. Both Liberator Silver and Gold solutions are available with optional extras including temperature and 'water in tray' sensors as well as an intelligent microprocessor controlled acid circulation system.

CMP claims that the ultimate in customer maintenance free motive power is Liberator Platinum. This comprehensive package offers a totally hands-off solution in which CMP Service Technicians will carry out every aspect of the maintenance and servicing regime. It incorporates the latest technology including features found in the other Liberator low-maintenance packages as well as a comprehensive monitoring system. Packages can be tailored to customers' needs after an on-site survey, which will cover equipment and logistical aspects as well as health & safety. The service complies with BS EN ISO 9001:2000.

All Liberator options are compatible with one of Chloride Motive Power's battery management systems to ensure that the status of the battery fleet is continually monitored and optimised and detailed management information provided covering every aspect of the batteries' usage. The Liberator packages are designed to be used with CMP regulated or HF (High Frequency) chargers. CMP's range of HF chargers has been designed specifically for use with these batteries which means that the charging profile is optimised; use of either battery or charger with another manufacturer's equipment will result in less than optimum performance.

Commenting on the launch of the Liberator solution, Nigel Darke, business director of Exide Technologies Industrial Energy Group said, "The Liberator solution is a win-win situation for the client and us. They save staff time and maximise uptime, while we are able to more accurately forecast the workload of our Technicians. Preventative maintenance means that, in the long run, both time and money is saved and safety improved."
