Close liaison between Axiom GB and Unifix has resulted in the development of an order picking system that has increased the capacity and accuracy of order processing procedures at the Unifix distribution facility, Smethwick. The installation incorporates conveyor systems, flow racking, carton assembly and sealing machines, plus weighing units. Axiom has also supplied a series of handheld RF scanners that enable warehouse operators to easily locate stock, carry out location audits, relocate goods, carry out inventories and pick required items. Improving accuracy and eliminating the need for a paper base, the RF scanners are linked to the Axiom control system that automatically manages all operations within the warehouse and processes goods-in details and order information. John Nickson, Axioms md, says Not surprisingly, we encountered significant problems in the early stages. However, Unifix management understood the complexities of the system and were keen to work with us to help develop a solution that is now proving to be extremely successful.
