Manual Cross Docking System July 1st 2004 A manual cross-docking system has been developed by Axiom GB to improve order picking efficiency and secondary-level sorting for Palletways.
As a market leader in the overnight distribution of small consignments of palletised freight, Palletways needed to secondary-sort product for one of its key customers. The customer wanted to improve order picking efficiency by having containers of bulk-picked product delivered to Palletways site at Fradley where it would be sorted into final consignments. An automatic sorting facility was felt to be too restrictive and too costly.
Axiom developed a cost effective manual cross docking system that meets all operating criteria and may be expanded easily in future.
The system has a web-based user interface for control and configuration with a central Linux server that receives customer information via email regarding shipments of product that arrive at the site for unloading and sorting into consignments.
Palletways staff can print automatically the pallet labelling documentation, update tracking data and handle each consignment within the centre. |
