Cranes Help to Boost Accuracy January 1st 2006 Demag Cranes & Components has installed six Steelmaster cranes at ASD metal services' site in Leeds.
Critical to steel processing at the Leeds site is the shot blasting, painting and sawing to length of 22m long raw steel bars.
These are loaded onto the process line by crane and manoeuvred at each stage of the process, before being offloaded from the line for despatch.
To increase productivity and improve efficiency in this section in order to meet increased customer demand, ASD metal services' operations team worked with Demag engineers to develop the new process line.
Demag installed six 30m span 7.5t + 7.5t twin crab cranes, each equipped with four fully interchangeable section handling magnets.
All of the cranes have an anti-pendular reeving system to eliminate load sway and promote positioning accuracy.
Further lifting precision is ensured by AC frequency inverters, providing smooth and infinite control of movement.
Cranes have a travel speed of up to 125m/min and hoisting speeds to 20m/min.
