Giving a boost to logistics efficiency

Specialised loading bay equipment from Transdek UK, installed with minimal disruption and without any construction work, has increased efficiency and cut the cost of deliveries at John Lewis stores in Sheffield and Nottingham.

The stores underground delivery areas, with restricted access, were previously serviced by 7.5t demountable trucks. The new equipment means they are now able to receive multi-deck trailers, reducing the number of deliveries.

At the Sheffield store, a new mobile dock leveller can be moved from one bay to another, so can be used with double-deck or demountable trailers.

At the same time Transdek increased the number of loading docks from two to three by installing a free-standing ramp. The docking for one of the existing loading bays was extended forward by installing a free-standing platform that gives access for multi-deck trailers.
