Mini lifter May 1st 2006 A Maeda Mini Crawler crane is helping to restore the SS Great Britain. The crane, supplied by Kranlyft to crane hire contractor AKS International, can get close closer to the ship than the conventional giant cranes used on site as part of the main project, due to weight restrictions on Bristol Docks, home of the SS Great Britain.
With maximum outrigger loadings of 2 tonnes, the Maeda 285 Mini Crawler fell within the weight restrictions for the historic dockside.
Rubber tracks provide low ground pressure and cause minimal damage when travelling.
With a 750 mm width, the machine's compact size made isolating the work area easier, ensuring visitor safety. Remote control allows the operator to be close to the lift and communicated directly with the banksman during placement of delicate glass panels forming ship's dry dock ceiling.
