PCM system ensures accurate parts coding September 1st 2005 Dolgarrog Aluminium, a specialist rolling mill producing products for the aerospace industry, has installed a Claricom Package Coding Management (PCM) System to ensure the accurate coding of parts at its North Wales factory.
Accurate part marking is essential to ensure that each item is identified correctly, and that traceability and an audit trail can be implemented.
The system eliminates the potential for coding errors and provides a more integrated system that links the control of part marking directly to the company’s ERP system. Rather than key in data manually, the operator simply scans a process card that downloads data relevant to that product.
Claricom’s CLARiSOFT coderindependent message design software is used to define the ‘look and feel’ of the printed information, as well as product coding specifications or ‘rules’.
The company says that CLARiSOFT is the only coder-in image design software for on-line coding and labelling equipment and includes standard automatic functions that allow information such as cast number, alloy and dimensions to come directly from the ERP system for improved speed and accuracy.
A CLARiNET network is then used to interconnect all printers and local handheld barcode reading equipment. More articles from Claricom Limited: |
