Purpose-designed strapping solution March 1st 2007 M.J. Maillis UK has supplied a robust, purposedesigned polyester strapping solution at the Surrey manufacturing site of Hanson Building Products. With a manufacturing capacity of some 40 million bricks per annum, Hanson required a strapping machine that would not only offer high levels of efficiency, but that would operate reliably in a highly demanding industrial environment where 10 bricks wide 'blades' of bricks are first protected with edging strip and then secured into five-bladeslong packs. The Maillis Group Vario Master VM9469 strapping machine was developed for use in the brick industry and includes a speciallyengineered, high-tension version of the Maillis MJM GS41 strapping head. Siemens PLC-controlled, the VM9469 is said to provide the highest available retained strap tension and high-speed operation. Installed in August 2006, it has reduced strapping time to just 6sec per strapping cycle and has operated reliably 24/7. Hanson has also signed an agreement for the supply of M.J.
