Air film turntable January 1st 2005 The Hovair Systems division of British Turntable Co has supplied a manuallyoperated air film turntable to Georgia-Pacific in Sheffied to streamline the loading of large reels of tissue paper intro processing machinery.
Paper reels are placed on the turntable by a forklift truck and are turned through 90° so that the reel can be picked up by a crane, which loads it into the machine.
If the forklift were used to lay the paper down, there would only be space for a single reel at any one time.
By using the turntable, four reels can be prepared for loading. This removes the need for a truck in the area during loading, reducing the risk of accidents.
The 3.6m dia turntable has a rotational load capacity of 5t and a drive-over capacity of 16t. Air operated, it has virtually no mechanical moving parts. No lubrication is needed. Abrasive tissue dust does not cause wear of bearings, and flammable dust does not become attracted to the grease that may be necessary to lubricate a mechanical turntable.
