BESPOKE SYSTEM MOVES DB9 July 1st 2005 A bespoke handling system from Excel Automation integrates many differing conveying and transfer techniques to deliver precise, controlled movement to Aston Martin’s DB9 final assembly line.
Car bodies are carried into the trim and final assembly area by AGV where they are transferred onto a jig-slat conveyor. Doors are placed in carriers and conveyed by Excel standard belt driven 500UB series powered roller conveyor through the door assembly process prior to the buffer area.
Jig-slats are installed flush to the factory floor and are coated with a non-slip matt black finish.
The Excel installation also included the power train assembly and marriage system where the appropriate drive train is assembled off-line, with engine, gearbox, rear subaxle and front suspension all aligned on a specially designed fixture trolley.
Following the fitting of wheels, the car is lowered by a four post drop section and placed on another Excel slat conveyor. More articles from Excel Automation Limited: |
