Hawker boosts uptime

Supplied by EnerSys Motive Power, Hawker batteries and chargers are playing a key role in maintaining optimum uptime for the lift truck fleet at the 24/7 national distribution centre of JD Wetherspoons.

Hawker batteries are used on reach trucks, low level order pickers and powered pallet transporters in the NDC, that has ambient, chilled and frozen zones.

A custom-designed battery charge/change area has a Hawker Pro Series powered battery change cart. The installation has 25 chargers and there is space for more when needed.

Hawker has installed a basic battery management system that ensures batteries are efficiently rotated and always receive full charge.

Exel, operator of the NDC, says the system will probably extend battery life by more than 18 months.

Lift trucks at the NDC use Perfect Plus batteries that offer extended work cycles between charges. They are charged by Hawker 3-phase Powertech high frequency chargers that are said to offer outstanding energy efficiency. Up to 20% higher than traditional 50Hz chargers is claimed. The unit detects the battery’s level of discharge and supplies only the amount of power needed to restore full charge.
