HYGIENIC PALLETS FOR CHEESE LINE November 1st 2003 When cheese producer A J Barber in Somerset was looking for robust, hygienic pallets for its packaging line, Allibert Buckhorn provided the solution.
Trevor Vaughan, store manager, explains Initially our cheese is stored in the warehouse to mature. Once mature, 80% of our cheddar needs to go through our packaging line to be prepared and packed for distribution to our supermarket customers.
Clearly hygiene is of paramount importance, so wood and cardboard products are unsuitable for use on the production line. Wed worked with Allibert Buckhorn before and had been very pleased with previous pallets.
Allibert Buckhorn loaned us some of its Maestro pallets to try. We not only needed a strong pallet for food use, but one that could be handled by forklift and electric pallet trucks.
It was invaluable to be able to try the product before we placed our order and the support, advice and customer service has been excellent. By the nature of plastic pallets, we run an efficient and clean operation, and with the long life of the pallets, our invest-ment should reap rewards for many years to come.
