Room to build
March 1st 2004

Vanriet UK has installed a powered roller conveyor system to create extra space in building products company Simpson Strong-Ties Tamworth plant. The conveyor transports pallets from the warehouse directly to the dispatch area for shipment. It replaces a process that relied on fork trucks to handle individual pallets and is said to provide a more productive and safe process that frees space for additional production and storage. Orders are picked onto a variety of different pallet sizes, the largest being 3.1m by 1m, and weighing up to 1t. These are placed onto in-feed stations next to the main conveyor track. Once the pallet load has been shrink-wrapped and documented, the pallet is automatically transferred to the main track that takes the pallets to dispatch.
