Trucks raise the roof March 1st 2004 When Hathaway Roofing was awarded a contract by The British Airports Authority to design, supply and install roofing for Heathrows Terminal 5, it brought in two multi-directional forklifts from Combilift to handle materials used on the production line dedicated to the project.
The trucks ability to handle incoming lengths of cold rolled members and pressed sections, as well as the finished roof panels measuring 3 by 6m, has enabled Hathaway Roofing to house the complete production of the project in the purpose built T5 extension, which has a floor area of just over 1000m2.
Combilift says that without the sideways capability of its forklifts, the company would have needed a far costlier extension with large areas of redundant space. Narrow aisles in the new building ensure all three production lines are accommodated.
The 4t capacity diesel powered trucks are used to off-load in the yard, position and store loads inside the premises, and reload 800kg finished panels, eliminating the need for double handling. More articles from Water Technology List: |
