Filling solution

Filling Solutions was recently approached by a major chemical manufacturing company to make its filling process less labour intensive, safer, and more accurate and efficient. Autosmart International is a leading UK trade supplier of vehicle cleaning products and it fills a large number of 1000 litre bulk containers (IBC's) with cleaning chemicals.

Says works engineer Nick Davison, "Our old procedure was one where an operator watched over the entire manual filling process and then turned off the hose-valve manually when the IBC was full. Our new system gives us significant cost savings because the whole process is now automatic, freeing up an operator to do other work. What's more, the necessity to check weigh filled IBC's has been significantly reduced due to the highly accurate calibrated nature of the new equipment. Finally, some of our chemicals are classified as hazardous, and the new process has improved safety by eradicating the manual handling element." By siting the installation outside the main factory building, but under a canopy, the installation cost was reduced. Also fork lift truck access to full and empty IBC's was made easier and safer by not having to enter the factory environment.
