Storage systems lift productivity July 1st 2008 When bearing
stockist, Bowman
International,
relocated to a
purpose-built site in
Abingdon, it was
keen to optimise
storage capacity by
using as much of
the height of the
building height as
possible. Computer
controlled vertical lift,
storage and retrieval
systems from Cargo
provided a solution.
The four new 7.5m high
lifts create 600m2 of shelved
storage space, on a
footprint of just 40m2. Cargo
says this represents an 80%
saving on floorspace when
compared to conventional
shelving and racking. An
estimated 50% saving in
manpower costs has
already been identified,
together with an increase in
health and safety benefits to
Bowman employees.
After several weeks of
operation, Bowman
International has reported a
three-fold increase in
picking productivity, and will
shortly implement a system
whereby picking sheets are
processed directly by the
Cargo lifts from a link with
the sales department. This
system will identify the most
efficient pick process for the
order, and present the
goods to the operator in
reduced time.
The company is also
considering adding Cargo's
weight cell technology to
existing and new machines. More articles from CARGO Automated Storage Systems: |
