Unit detects co2

Status Scientific Controls has introduced the PGD3-IR, a gas detector that houses up to two miniature infrared sensors to detect carbon dioxide or flammable gases, plus two other sensors.

The advantages claimed for IR flammable sensors are as follows:

IR detectors for flammable gases cannot be poisoned by silicones, leads and sulphides

IR sensors work without the presence of oxygen useful in purging applications

They are relatively failsafe. All elements in the IR detector are constantly monitored. Should the sensor fail in any way, it will be displayed as 'fail'.

It has been argued that measuring CO2 via the depletion of oxygen is acceptable, but Status Scientific Controls says there are now examples showing that long term exposure levels of CO2 can be reached before the O2 reading on a gas detector is of low content.

The PGD3-IR is said to accurate;y detect the CO2 concentration.
