regional exhibitions and conferences, sponsored by
DuPont is sold out. It will take place at the Reebok
Stadium, Bolton on the 10th and 11th of October

free conference and seminar
programme. Papers are to be
delivered by a raft of industry experts and
IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety
and Health) members representing the
Manchester and North West Districts
Branch. The full timetable of seminars can
be found later in this preview or online at:
www.healthandsafetyevents.co.uk.
Register now, as there are only a few
places remaining.
Having held a successful event at
Sandown Park Exhibition Centre (to be
repeated in February 2008) the North West
is a sensible choice for the Northern event in
the series. The region, according to statistics
published by the Health & Safety Executive
was in 2005/6 the region responsible for the
highest number of deaths to workers and
also the highest number of major injuries to
employees in England. Now, while statistics
do not tell the whole story it can never be a
bad thing for people in a wide cross-section
of industries to have access to a first class
health and safety event on their doorstep.
Personal protective equipment this
is an area which is well represented with
the show's main sponsor being DuPont,
and Ansell Healthcare Europe, Aearo
Technologies and WL Gore & Associates
(GORE-TEX products) being event
partners. Other PPE suppliers such as BM
Polyco and Marigold Industrial will also
have stands at the event, and the huge
range of products available will include
clothing, eye wear and ear plugs.
Noise and vibration New EU-based
regulations for the control of vibration risks in
the work place came into force in Great
Britain in July 2005 while the noise
regulations were updated in 2006. Those
seeking to control their noise issues can
access product solutions from the likes of
Aearo Technologies while Pulsar Instruments
and Cirrus Research work in the area of
environmental and industrial/occupational
noise. On the consultancy side First Stop
Safety is a specialist in this area while Five
Sides Industrial offers consultancy in the
area of vibration.
Respiratory protection Gas detection
equipment is offered by such well established
companies as BW Technologies By
Honeywell, ISC Oldham Gas Detection and
Shawcity, while Nederman has a full range of
dust and fume extraction equipment. ACS,
Health, Safety and Environment, Airborne
Environmental Consultants and The
Chartered Institute of Environmental Health all
offer solutions in monitoring and protecting
those not directly involved in, or even on the
site of the process.
Environmental impact The new module
from Praxis42 will provide a good working
knowledge of environmental issues, explains
how actions at work can affect performance
and what they can do to reduce
environmental impacts. It can be delivered
either online or through a computer network
to each trainee at their computer or other
device to be completed at their own pace.
Environmental Awareness covers key issues
including waste, energy, air emissions, travel
and noise. It also provides an overview of the
international environmental management
system standard, ISO14001.
Preventing slips, trips and falls from
height A wide array of product solutions
such as anti-slip flooring, spill control and
spill containment can be seen at Health and
Safety 07 from exhibitors such as Formbar,
Fosse, Safety Unlimited and Forth Systems.
Usually of much greater severity are falls
from height. The latest injury statistics (from
the HSE) show that 40% of all worker
deaths in construction are caused by a fall
from height and in the last 5 years there
have been 13 such deaths involving
construction workers in the Eastern Region.
Site safety Specialist equipment is on
show at Health and Safety 07 from the
likes of A-Plant, Scafftag and Pammenter &
Petrie, as well as advice which can be
obtained from the likes of Tag.
Emergency response First Aid and
emergency response information and
products are available from companies
such as Evac+Chair International, Cardiac
Science Holdings and Martek Marine
which will be showing its latest generation
Automatic External Defibrillator.
Consultancy and training
Outsourcing is becoming increasingly
used in the UK. This trend is demonstrated
at Health and Safety 07 with training and
consultancy companies making up around
10% of the exhibitors. Of course some
consultancies have their specialist areas
such as Tag or Laidler Associates
Consulting Service which is well-known in
the area of machinery safety. Or, like JMJ
Associates, Woodward SHE and Norwich
Union Risk Services, they offer a broad
range of services, often to multinationals. More articles from Western Business Exhibitions: |
