Safety and Health Expo
March 1st 2007

The NEC Birmingham will again host Europe's largest annual health and safety exhibition, Safety and Health Expo, from 22-24 May 2007. Safety & Health Expo 2006 attracted a total attendance of 18,015* and is set to increase its presence in 2007 with an injection of fresh ideas and visitor experiences

The event will feature over 320 companies exhibiting a broad range of products and services as well as offer visitors free independent advice, and is officially supported by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

Exhibiting companies include Scott Health & Safety, Safety Shoe Company, Bacou- Dalloz, Goliath Footwear, AEARO Technologies, CAT Workwear and Draeger Safety UK.

As always, Safety and Health Expo will offer visitors a range of free educational seminars, presented by high-profile industry experts on a range of pressing issues, including asbestos removal, working at height legislation and lone worker protection. This year, Safety & Health Expo will offer a number of new feature areas and attractions, designed to accurately reflect the needs of today's safety and health professional.

holding its annual conference at Safety and Health Expo 2007. Called Working at Height – Getting it Right, it will follow an entirely new format and take place during the second day of the exhibition on Wednesday, 23 May 2007.

Bill Callaghan, chair of the Health and Safety Commission will present the keynote speech and the conference will be chaired by Ian Greenwood, head of the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) Falls from Height Team. Justine Lee, also from the HSE, will address the topic: The Work at Height Regulations: A Front Line Report.

"The aim is to provide everyone with valuable insights they can apply in their everyday work," says Don Aers of the organising committee. "We want delegates to relate the topics to their own work and first hand experience." Attendees will also have the opportunity of putting questions directly to AIF member organisations and these can be emailed in advance to conference@accessindustryforum.org.uk.

After the success of Access Live at Safety & Health Expo 2006, this show floor demonstration area will run again in 2007, showcasing working at height issues. The area demonstrates how working at height is still the leading health and safety challenge, using actors role-playing specific situations.

Safety and Health Expo 2007 will also host the directors' Health & Safety Responsibilities Conference and the Construction Health & Safety Conference, run by RoSPA in the gallery suites of the NEC.

In recent years there has been a growing focus on the health and safety responsibilities of directors and senior managers in all organisations. The directors' Health & Safety Responsibilities Conference, which includes nationally recognised speakers, is an opportunity for directors, senior managers and H&S professionals to explore recent developments and key dimensions of this challenging subject.

In the last 25 years, over 2,800 people have died from injuries they received as a result of the construction work. The construction industry is one of Britain's most dangerous and the largest with over 2.2 million employees. With such levels of fatalities and injuries, key players in the industry are now working together to reduce the dangers and subsequent consequences. The Construction Health & Safety Conference will debate and address these issues.

Safety & Health Expo will also host the BSIF Product Innovation Awards. These are presented each year to companies that have produced products and/or services, which, in the opinion of the judges, offer a significant contribution in improvements in occupational health and safety and towards a reduction of workplace accidents. The BSIF Product Innovation Awards at Safety & Health Expo 2007 are the only awards to promote the importance of innovation and underline the highest standards of excellence within occupational health and safety.

Safety and Health Expo is part of CMP Information's May Series of events, including The Facilities Show, the security exhibition, IFSEC, International Fire Expo and the new event for the emergency services, Fire and Rescue – all taking place at the NEC, Birmingham from 21/22- 24 May 2007.
