Bin emptying becomes a sophisticated process
November 1st 2003

Emptying the bin has become a sophisticated process on the Weetabix production line at Hazlewood Foods in Corby thanks to a bespoke hoisting system developed by SCX. The system comprises a free-standing runway scheme with two goal post structures positioned 3.3m apart with a 3m span. Runway beams run for 5.5m with a floor to hook height of 2m and a 1.5m cantilever. To lift the bins, SCX incorporated a low headroom chain hoist capable of operating in the required envelope, powered by a festoon feed system and fitted with an overload protection system. The system is operated remotely from fixed roof level and ground level stations. From these station, push button controls enable the operator to automatically open and close the doors between production areas, traverse the hoist through the doors, lift, tip and lower the load.
