TAGS SHOW HAV RISKS
September 1st 2005

In preparation for the new Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) legislation, Oldham Council asked ritchey-ids to help it devise a simple, colour-coded tag warning system to indicate the safe operating time of each of its handheld power tools.

All affected mechanical equipment is supplied with a colour-coded HAV tag overprinted to indicate the level of HAV risk through the number of points that accrue with use over a specified period.

Under the 10-strong tag system, spearmint tags are used for equipment that accrues 8.5 points per minute while, at the other end of the risk spectrum, a black tag indicates 1.5 points per minute.

The maximum number of points any employee can safely accrue in one day is 400.
