Data logger helps improve driver habits November 1st 2003 Most accidents happen because operators have disregarded the Dos and Donts of basic training that are set out in several excellent industry-specific safety guides including the HSEs Safety in Working with Lift Trucks and BITAs Operators Safety Code.
In many cases operators drive too fast, not paying attention to their surrounding environment. The danger is increased when pedestrians do not adhere to the designated safety signage.
Linde has developed the Data Logger control system, a password protected PIN keypad that replaces the conventional key. The Data Logger helps prevent unauthorised use of the vehicle. The system is full of safety features, including an auto log off that is useful when an operator leaves the vehicle for any period. By definition, personnel who are given PIN access to the equipment must be professionally trained, therefore ensuring safety levels are maintained. The PIN system can also record and identify the individual operator as well as measure the utilisation and productivity of the equipment to identify problem areas.
Options include a damage control device that will monitor any impact to the truck while operating, therefore minimising the risk of damage to equipment and loads and consequently reducing maintenance and other costs. More articles from Lansing Material Handling (UK): |
