Zone 2 use
November 1st 2004

At Leigh’s Paints’ headquarters in Bolton, raw materials consist of flammable chemicals and dictate the use of Zone 2 equipment on the factory floor.

To satisfy its handling requirements, the company opted for six Sichelschmidt pedestrian operated pallet trucks supplied by UK distributor Ability Handling.

Five of the d-125 asm trucks are Zone 2, with the remaining truck used for work in unzoned areas.

The 2t capacity is more than adequate for moving portable tanks for work in progress as well as tins of finished coatings.

Since the Sichelschmidt trucks have been in operation, the company has saved on maintenance costs. Production director, Chris Owen likes the fact that the flameproof nature of the trucks is an integral part of the design, believing it to be much more convenient than add-on gas detectors.
