Responding to comments from clients about problems in conducting CoSHH risk assessments, EnviroDerm Services has developed a system that is designed for use by line managers and others with only limited training in health and safety issues.

Implementing CoSHH helps managers identify those tasks where risk assessment is required and uses a simple form to take them through a series of questions to arrive at an assessment of risks of damage to health. It covers both respiratory and skin exposure, as well as biological hazards.

The aim is to provide a ‘first pass’ assessment system that helps an organisation ensure that risk assessment for chemical hazards is carried out on all relevant tasks and flags where additional, specialist involvement is needed.
