Tagging system boosts safety March 1st 2007 Near misses have been reduced and safety improved at The Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, Ohio, following the implementation of Scafftag's Unitag system for maintenance and inspection of fall arrest harnesses. The Unitag system is used to identify harnesses and lanyards which have not been inspected by the site's qualified equipment inspectors. It comprises a holder that attaches permanently to the equipment, and replacement inserts and has a permanent locking system to help ensure security. Once the two parts of the holder are locked together, it can only be removed by means of heavy duty cutters. Using the Unitag system, Chevron gives each year a colour so that it is immediately apparent if equipment has been inspected in that period. If the colour is incorrect or equipment found to be faulty, the insert is removed from the holder to reveal the 'do not use' legend. Following the success of the Unitag system, other Scafftag systems are being introduced at Chevron. More articles from Scafftag Limited: |
