European distributor of industrial MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) products, Brammer, is warning UK companies working with chemicals that they only have until 1st December to officially register these substances.

The EU's REACH (Registration, Evaluation, and Authorisation of Chemicals) legislation places strict duties on companies to register all chemical substances they are working with to ensure they are safe.

Companies which manufacture or import 1 tonne or more of any chemical substance per year must pre-register that substance with the new European Chemicals Agency by 1st December – or face being banned from manufacturing or importing that product until they submit a full registration dossier.

Businesses which pre-register their chemicals can then benefit from three staggered deadlines for full registration.

Brammer advises companies working with chemicals to appoint an individual to be responsible for compliance and create a full inventory of all substances being produced, imported or handled.
